MSc International Hospitality and Tourism Management

The MSc International Hospitality and Tourism Management course is offered by City Unity College in collaboration with Coventry University. It is aimed at students seeking a career within the international tourism and hospitality industries. The course is designed to build students’ strategic understanding of the hospitality and tourism industries as well as a managerial perspective of how to run such operations.

  • Program Objective

    It provides students with the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and a set of rigorous and industry relevant analytical tools for leadership and management positions. Students will develop knowledge and ability to apply fundamental concepts through a range of teaching and learning approaches, including experiential activities and live projects.

  • Duration of study

    This course is offered on a full (1 year) and a part-time (2 years) basis and consists of 8 mandatory modules and one final dissertation.

  • Language of Instruction

    This course is delivered in English, including teaching material, lecturing, and assessments.

According to the Greek Law 4093/12 all awards provided by European Universities after attending their programmes at recognized Colleges in Greece lead to the acquirement of equal professional rights within Greece, after they are reviewed and approved by ATEEN, the dedicated department of the Ministry of Education for applying the respective European Laws and Regulations.

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT

Strategic Management challenges concepts of strategy, its scope, purpose and outcomes and provides a practical outline of a number of different approaches to strategic management.

MANAGERIAL FINANCE

The aim of this module is to explore key accounting and finance practice and the associated decision making tools within organisations.  It will cover the nature of accounting and finance tools within a variety of business environments and consider appropriate management techniques to help identify strategic options.

OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT IN HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM

This module seeks to give students a critical understanding of the nature of operations management in service industries, specifically travel, tourism and hospitality. Operations is central to the success of any business and is a key strategic objective in the contemporary competitive environment.

GLOBAL HRM STRATEGIES

This module considers the political, economic and social factors that impact on international human resource management and employee relations. Students will identify the human resource challenges and opportunities that face multinational organisations

MARKETING AND CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE MANAGEMENT

This exciting and dynamic module has been designed to build not only your academic skills in the subject area, but also the practical skills which employers in the hospitality and tourism industries are seeking. Throughout this module, you will examine the relationship between marketing and customer experience management

DESTINATION MANAGEMENT

This module considers and critically evaluates the major challenges facing tourism development in the modern world. Furthermore, it addresses prospective solutions which have been developed to help the tourism industry achieve the goal of overall sustainability.

EVENTS AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT

On completion of this module you will be able to apply a variety of theoretical concepts and frameworks on which the project management knowledge systems is based and apply effective methodologies, tools and techniques applicable to initiate, plan, implement and evaluate event projects.

RESEARCH METHODS FOR THE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES

The Research Methods for the Creative Industries module exposes students to a different range of research philosophies, techniques and methodologies. The aim is to ensure that all students have a thorough understanding of the requirements to complete an original postgraduate level research project.

DISSERTATION FOR CONTEMPORARY HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT

The dissertation provides an opportunity for you to develop your research interests by focusing on a topic that is related to the hospitality and tourism industries.

This course is offered on a full (1 year) and a part-time (2 years) basis leading to a Master of Science award after the successful completion of 180 credits. The course consists of 8 mandatory modules, 15 credits each, and one final dissertation equivalent to 60 credits. Students are expected to study 4 modules in each semester and after their successful completion they will be able to enter the dissertation stage. Each module is structured in weekly 3hour sessions, lasting for 13 weeks. Furthermore, students are able to schedule individual meetings with their instructors (physically or online) during office hours or via email. The evaluation of each module is based on a combination of written assignments and presentations. All assessments are mandatory as described in the module descriptors. The teaching methods applied by our lecturers aim at encouraging students in an interactive way of learning, and engaging them in further research.

To be accepted for entry onto the MSc International Hospitality and Tourism Management course candidates must possess:

  • A good honours degree at 2:2 or above or equivalent.
  • For EU and international students, this course requires IELTS of 6.5 with no component below 5.5 or equivalent

Careful monitoring of applications to ensure that applicants are suited to the course will take place.  Where necessary, applicants are interviewed by the Link Tutor (remotely if applicable), especially those who do not appear to meet the standard admissions criteria. Where deemed appropriate, a written exercise is administered to establish suitability.
