BSc Psychology

City Unity College offers, in collaboration with the International University of Brcko, a recognized undergraduate degree program in Psychology. The program covers a wide range of topics, focusing in particular on the continuing professional development of students.

The undergraduate Psychology program is mainly aimed at high school graduates or graduates of other majors who would like to work as psychologists. Psychology is the systematic and scientific study of the human mind and behaviour. It provides a wide range of applications in health and social services, industry, markets and education.

  • Aims of the programme

    During this four-year program, students will study the discipline of psychology holistically and develop a deep understanding of its theoretical approaches and mechanisms. The program aims to develop students' professional skills, preparing them to work in the field of psychology or to continue for further studies at postgraduate level. Through the courses, students will develop quantitative and qualitative critical skills that will enable them to explain and predict human behaviour. A wide range of teaching and learning strategies will be used to provide students with the opportunity to gain specialist knowledge and skills in psychology, which is one of the most popular areas of undergraduate study.

    All lectures, teaching material, assignments and exams are in the Greek language.

Under Law 4393/12, European University degrees obtained by attending programs in recognized / accredited Colleges are professionally recognized by the ATEEN Department of the Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs in Greece.

General Pedagogy I: The initiation of pedagogy is a fundamental theoretical discipline in which students learn about pedagogy as science and learn about  dream  pedagogical phenomena. The aim of the subject is to develop interests and sensibility in students for systematic and critical study of pedagogical theory and educational practice.

Language: Getting acquainted with the phonetic-phonological structure of the language. Systematization of theoretical basis of phonetics, phonology, morphology and lexicology.

Logic: A student should learn what is the form language of predicate logic, to decide what the formulas of toutology are and to prove in the form system of clasical predicate logic.

Informatics: Introducing students to basic terms in informatics, as well as the importance of informatics for modern business. Developing practical skills in using program tools, which students will use during college schooling.

English Ι: Introducing students to the basics of general and business English with occasional reviews of professional vocabulary. Developing two of the basic skills: reading, writing. Mastering the professions needed to understand unknown text (skimming and scanning)in certain situations, mastering the basics of business correspondence.

Sociology: Introducing students  to the basic  sociological  problems of modern  society  and  acquiring the necessary  knowledge of the  social  aspects of education,  its  social  role  and the conditions  in  which  it  is  achieved.

General Pedagogy ΙΙ: Further familiarizing students with fundamental theoretical and methodological issues of pedagogy as a science and scientific system. Gaining an revision in the subject of the study of pedagogy as an integral science of education and laying the groundwork for further systematic and critical study of theory and educational practice within other pedagogical disciplines.

Philosophy: Introducing students to the most important philosophical point of view concerning the problem of education and education; introducing students to the importance and purpose of philosophy of education; introducing students to the importance of rational interpretation of the world in the education and education process; introducing students to different types of argumentation and the limits of their entry; students' ability to have argumentative and critical opinions.

English ΙΙ: Introducing students with lower-middle levels of general and business English with a frequent review of professional vocabulary from the profession.

Mass Communications: Introducing students to basic terms, problems, methods and types of communication.

Didactics: Adoption of basic didactic knowledge and development of elementary didactic ability to understand the essence, objective and tasks of teaching and education; training for curricular design of content and outcomes of education; training for adequate selection and creative use of teaching methods, forms, didactic media and strategies in the process of planning, realizing and evaluation of the teaching process.

Aesthetics: Mastering the basic discipline, classical works of Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Schelling, Hegel, the aesthetics of the 20th century, the history of the system of shaping autonomous art and its degradation, differentiation in terms of art and beautiful, functions of art within different cultures.

General Psychology Ι: Psychology I is a fundamental theoretical discipline within which students learn about psychology as science and study basic psychological phenomena. The aim of the subject is to develop interests and sensibility in students for systematic and critical study of psychological theory and practice.

Media Culture: The acceptance of acquired knowledge in practice.

History of Pedagogy: The aim of the program is to master basic knowledge from the history of pedagogy (general and national), develop pedagogical opinion, attitudes and values about many pedagogical problems in their developmental dynamics, which illuminate our modernity – in order to understand it as best and properly as possible.

Education and Education System: Acquiring basic knowledge  and  understanding the principles of organizing  and  functioning  modern education and  education  systems  in  our country and  in the world,  understanding the connection  with  other parts of  society,  recognizing the dynamics  and  needs of development  and improvement of the  system.

General Psychology ΙΙ: General psychology 1 is a fundamental theoretical discipline in which students learn about psychology as science and study basic psychological phenomena.  The aim of the subject is to develop interests and sensibility in students for systematic and critical study of psychological theory and practice.

Ethics: The student needs to get acquainted with the basic issues of ethics, the main ethical theories, to obtain introductory information about meta-ethics and applied ethics.

Comparative Pedagogy: Introducing students to scientific opinion and rationally thinking about education and their call. To encourage envy and self-judgment about pedagogical problems. Teaching with teaching  systems  and a lifelong learning system.

Developmental Psychology: Adoption of basic concepts in developmental psychology and with the knowledge of   human development during the life cycle. Developing the skill of critical reading of works in this discipline as well as considering psychological phenomena from a developmental perspective.

Personality Psychology: Personality psychology is a discipline in which students learn about psychology as a science facing the individual and care for their internal experiences. The aim of the subject is to develop interests and sensibility in students for systematic and critical study of personality psychology.

Learning Psychology: With knowledge from psychological  theories of learning  and  memory,  with  a particular  focus  on  theories  and  concepts  relevant  to adult learning.

Genetics: Gaining knowledge of inheritance mechanisms, the organization and function of genes; understanding the role of genes in shaping people's behavior; understanding the relationship between biological and cultural evolution.

Methodology of Pedagogical Research with Statistics: Introduction of students into logical forms of pedagogical opinion and in the theory of pedagogical research training for independently determining the epistemological assumptions of the draft scientific research work.

Cognitive Psychology: Cognitive psychology is a discipline in which students get to know the way of perception, memory and processing of information in man. 

Preschool Pedagogy: To understand and develop the implications of pedagogical and psychological theories in the field of preschool education.

Emotions and Motivation: Provide students with knowledge of basic psychological drivers in man, motives and emotional life and opportunities to act in practice accordingly.

General Psychopathology: Studying psychopathology and classification systems.

Psychology of Gifts and Creativity: The psychology of gifts is a discipline within which students learn about psychology in the function of supporting gifted and creative students. The aim of the case is to develop interests and sensibility in students for the gift of students.

Delinquence Psychology: Delinquency psychology is a discipline in which students learn about delinquency as the appearance of an individual and his internal experiences in relation to behavior.

Psychology of Sport: The psychology of sports is a discipline in which students learn about psychology in the function of understanding psychological phenomena in sport.

Developmental Impeded Psychology: Sensitization and understanding of the meaning of  special  needs  within  the  socially-exclusive  model; Getting acquainted  with the experiences  of exclusive  education; initial  skills  of creating  individual  plans  to support a child  with  special needs  in  a regular  school; skills  of partnering  with  family.

Methodology of Work of the School Psychologist: Introduce students to different theoretical approaches, concepts and models of educational work. Train students theoretically, research and practically for the profession of school psychologist (professional associate at school).

Communication Psychology: Adoption of fundamental knowledge and concepts in the psychology of communication. Getting to know, understand and critically consider the basic problems in studying communication between smoke people.

Basis of Psychotherapy and Counselling: Psychotherapy is a discipline within which students get to know psychology in the function of help and in special situations.

Psychology of Work: Psychology of work is a discipline within which students know psychology in the function of work processes.

Social Pathology: The main goal of the program is for students to master the theoretical and empirical knowledge of modern science on social deviations on multidisciplinary grounds, given the fact that as social workers in practice they will deal with the debut or prevention of different forms of social deviations in different ways.

Based on Leadership Psychology: Training students to understand the importance and role of leaders in different areas of action, to create and apply adequate educational models in the process of developing leadership competences.

Systemic Family Psychotherapy: Students are introduced to systemic family psychotherapy.

Mental Health: Adoption of basic concepts in the protection and improvement of mental health and familiarization with some practical primary prevention programs.

Professional Practice: The outcome of the subject is that the student can also perform set tasks in the work organisations in which they are employed.

Graduate Work/ Dissertation: The aim of graduate work is to show that the student has a satisfactory ability to apply theoretical and practical knowledge in the scientific field they study

The duration of the program is 4 years full-time or 6 part-time. Completion of the program includes the successful completion of 40 courses and the completion of a thesis, equivalent to 240 ECTS/ 480 Credits. The lessons are offered either in class or online.

During the course, the necessary optical and laboratory equipment is used, including video projectors, PCs, and CD players.

All students have access to the E-Learning electronic platform where the teaching material, grades and announcements for all courses are listed.

After successful completion of the programme, graduates can have their professional rights recognised by the ΑΤΕΕΝ department of the Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs and get their license to work as psychologists in Greece in both the public and private sector. More specifically, graduates can work in:

  • hospitals and private clinics;
  • counselling centres;
  • nursing homes;
  • schools and organizational contexts;
  • drug treatment centres;
  • promoting public health and preventing illness;
  • research centres;
  • their own office, as self-employed psychologists.
  • Graduates can also undertake postgraduate studies in a wide range of psychology fields (e.g. forensic, health, clinical, exercise, occupational, sports etc.) in Greece and internationally.
  • Have a high school diploma (or equivalent) with an average grade of at least 60% of the high school’s highest grade
  • In exceptional cases an interview or challenge courses or entrance exams or accreditation of prior learning will be required in consultation with the programme director and/or head of the department.

In order to enroll in the program, students must submit a file with the following supporting documents: Photocopy of ID, Photocopy of High School Diploma and A and B grades, 2 photographs. The dossier is evaluated by the Academic Head of the IUB Programme. When registration is complete, registered students are sent a registration confirmation, and a library access code.

All courses take place in the campus of City Unity College in the centre of Athens, 15-17 Thiseos Str, Syntagma, 10562. City Unity College also has a campus in Patras.

Career Centre

The Career Centre of City Unity College connects students with the job market. The Career Centre organizes seminars on resume writing and how to conduct interviews as well as days where students come into contact with businesses of various subjects.
