British Psychological Society Approved Seminars

The Psychology Learning Center of City Unity College offers a number of seminars which are approved by the British Psychological Society for the purposes of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

The seminars are of especial interest for current students, graduates, staff, chartered psychologists and other health professionals interested to undertake training in a wide range of fields relevant to psychology, psychological research and practice.

All of the following seminars are offered online, through the streaming platform (E-Class) of City Unity College.

This intensive training course is designed for students & graduates of the MSc Health Psychology programme, health psychologists and other psychologists and health professionals. It aims to promote understanding of different theoretical perspectives of health behaviour change as well as elements of intervention design and evaluation.

Emphasis is placed on how to apply this knowledge to practice and design, implement and evaluate effective health behaviour change interventions to promote well-being. A wide range of learning strategies such as presentations, live demonstrations, video demonstrations, case studies, workshops, role playing, group and pair practice, home exercises and self-reflection practices will be used.

The course takes place one day per week, for four weeks, and participants will be required to complete a set of brief report/ exercises that aim to provide them with practical skills to enhance understanding and promote reflexive learning. Participants will be provided with printable worksheets and forms that they can use in their practice.

This intensive training course is designed for students of undergraduate & postgraduate Psychology programmes, psychologists, psychotherapists and other health professionals. It aims to introduce participants to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and its applications in stress management, through the use of a wide range of learning strategies such as presentations, live demonstrations, video demonstrations, case studies, workshops, role playing, group and pair practice, home exercises and self-reflection practices. A wide range of CBT and stress relaxation techniques will be covered. The course takes place one day per week, for four weeks, and participants will be required to complete a set of brief report/ exercises that aim to provide them with practical skills to enhance understanding and promote reflexive learning. Participants will be provided with printable worksheets and forms that they can use in their practice.

This intensive training course is designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as graduates who wish to further develop their academic writing skills. Even though the programme is designed by the Psychology Department of CityU, it may also be of interest for students/ graduates of other departments as well. The course aims to improve participants’ skills in academic writing, the use of the APA referencing style (7th edition), critical thinking/ evaluation skills and skills for publishing work and presenting at conferences. A range of learning strategies will be used, such as presentations, workshops and home exercises. The course takes place one day per week, for two weeks, and participants will be required to complete a set of exercises and a short presentation. In addition to the slides and templates for Powerpoint presentations, participants will also be provided with pdf files on APA referencing style as well as a checklist on what to look for when they evaluate a paper.

This intensive training course is designed for students and professionals of various disciplines and industrial background, though it will be of especial interest to psychology students and professionals. It aims to introduce participants into the latest knowledge and scientific findings related to the thinking processes of the human brain, and how they can enhance their creative potential.

Emphasis is placed on understanding the main theoretical frameworks and approaches to creative thinking, understanding brain functioning and the definition of creativity, learning how to use a wide range of techniques to develop creativity and apply them in real situations. Additionally, participants will learn how to apply techniques for idea generation and further develop their complex problem solving skills. Participants will be guided through presentation slides and videos, and they will also have the opportunity to expand their creative thinking skills through exercises, creative tasks, and self-reflection, as well as team discussions.

The course takes place one day per week (4 hours), for two weeks. During the workshop each participant will be doing exercises which they will be then discussed with the rest of the participants. Feedback and feedforward will further enhance their understanding of knowledge and its application.

This intensive training course is designed for students of undergraduate & postgraduate Psychology programmes, psychologists, psychotherapists and other health professionals. The course aims to introduce participants to Substance Abuse theories and intervention techniques and their applications in forensic settings, through the use of a wide range of learning strategies such as presentations, live demonstrations, video demonstrations, case studies, workshops, role playing, group and pair practice, home exercises and self-reflection practices. The course takes place one day per week, for four weeks, and participants will be required to complete a set of brief report/ exercises that aim to provide them with practical skills to enhance understanding and promote reflexive learning.
