Hellenic - Arab Maritime Academy
City Unity College with the support of the Maritime Department
of Commerce and Development and the co-operation of the AASTMT of the Arab League, announced in May 2017 the foundation and creation of the Hellenic Arab Maritime Academy of Merchant Shipping.
The Academy is integrated as an autonomus educational unit into the existing structure of City Unity College while the educational programs being offered include studies of all three levels of higher maritime education: Undergraduate (BSc), Postgraduate Degrees (MSc) and Doctoral (PhD). All programs are conducted in English Language and are intended for candidates from all over the world.
The Hellenic-Arab Maritime Academy through City Unity College offers the four-year BSc in Marine Transport Technology, BSc in Marine Engineering Technology and BSc in Marine Electrical Technology where students acquiring at the same time Certificate of Competency (COC) as 2ndMate, 3rd Engineer and Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) respectively.
All graduates may upgrade their COC until they reach the highest level of the merchant ship hierarchy and be Masters and Chief Engineers after having 18 and 36 months of sea going experience.
The Academy offers at its premises the STCW Courses for Deck Officers, Marine Engineers and ETO.
The theoretical education is enhanced by practical exercises that takes place in up-to-date simulators, in engine workshops/labs as well as during the scheduled training trips that can be carried out either on board any merchant foreign going ship or on board the training ship AIDA IV.
The use of full mission, real time, computer-based simulators related to Ship Handling and Engine Room provide students with advanced training in navigation, seamanship, maneuvering and the operation of vessels under normal and potentially hazardous conditions. The high level of physical and behavioral realism of Engine Room Simulator creates a professional environment for the Engineers in the fields of familiarization and education, standard operation and watch keeping, advanced operation and troubshooting, basic physical and technical knowledge.
In addition, there is a series of simulators used to support the training of the students and/or officers who wish to upgrade their certificates, or attend STCW Courses i.e Integrated Bridge System, Mini Bridge, Tug Boat, Small Fast Ship, Vessel Traffic Services, ECDIS Labs, Offshore Vessel, Offshore Crane, Liquid Cargo Handling, Natural Gas and Petrochemicals, GMDSS, Crisis Management, Gantry Crane, Truck and the Helicopter Underwater Escape Training Simulator.
The AIDA IV provides a comprehensive on board Guided Sea Training for cadets in addition to Planned Sea Training on board different types of merchant vessels.
The training ship is manned not only by Deck Officers, Engine Officers and Crew but also by Professors of the Academy who are appointed to teach, familiarize, follow-up, guide all cadets, and prepare them to work at sea and be fit for the professional life on board different type of merchant vessels.
Cadets gain theoretical and practical insight into many different areas of vessel operations, including maritime technology maritime engineering, electrical engineering, navigation, safety, cargo operations, leadership and management
The Hellenic – Arab Maritime Academy not only focuses on education, but on building the character and personality of the students in order to take their roles as future leaders in their prospective career.
As the courses are developed in conjunction with the maritime industry, the Academy maintains sound relations with shipping companies, port authorities and maritime organizations by providing the needed logistic and research support with a view to improving performance and work efficiency.
The Academy prepares students for careers through a content-centered curriculum and a hands-on, team building approach to learning utilizing marine simulators.

Blue Career Center
The Blue Career Center at the Hellenic Arab Maritime Academy is dedicated to help deck / engine cadets and maritime alumni by offering an array of services and resources to aid in all facets of career planning and recruiting.
The Blue Career Center (BCC) seeks to bridge students and graduates from their roles as maritime academic learners to their roles as productive graduates with fulfilling shipping industry careers. We put our academic motto, Learn-Do-Learn, into practice by focusing on shipping and offshore career development.
Experienced Staff is available to assist candidates in Resume Building, Interview Skills and ensure their continued development through Career Development Workshops.
The ΒCC, aims through partnerships with Shipping Companies and Career Services, to ensure that all students and graduates of the Academy are provided with the opportunity to experience a brilliant career in the field of shipping.
